PanasonicPanasonic G1 test photos : Right before the Photokina, I found some time to work with the new Panasonic G1 for a short period of time. As far as I'm concerned, this is the most interesting development of the year 2008. A while ago, Panasonic introduced the Micro FourThirds system in cooperation with Olympus, which is a further developed camera system based on the Four Thirds standard, shortly after which Panasonic introduced the new G1. This is even more surprising since you would not expect this kind of innovative modification to the interior of the traditional camera by an electronics manufacturer. On the other hand, perhaps you would expect it from a manufacturer as Panasonic, who might have a different view on photography.

The current camera models can be roughly divided in a twosome models: compact and DSLR. Yet a commonly heard wish is to be able to choose a camera with a compact build, yet with the qualities of a digital SLR. The advantages of a compact camera are obvious; conveniently small and sufficiently light to carry with you at all times, and although the current DSLR has considerably shrunk in size, the difference between both models is still vast.

This difference however, is broken by the introduction of the Panasonic LUMIX G1, or at least, it's a start. The size is obviously more compact and indeed looks like an advanced compact camera. The possibility of changing lenses is of course the main quality of the Micro Four-Thirds system. Soon after the Photokina show we will give priority to the Panasonic G1, one of several more, and the technical tests carried out in our DIWA Lab.

Panasonic G1 prototype
Panasonic revealed today the development in process of a new Micro FourThirds system camera. Panasonic already claims that it will introduce the world's smallest High Definition system camera in 2009; the Panasonic Lumix G.

Panasonic Four Thirds mount adapter
In addition to accepting Micro Four Thirds lenses, the Panasonic Lumix G1 can be fitted with a mount adapter that allows the use of standard Four Thirds lenses. This greatly expands the assortment of lenses available to users. They can choose lenses from a variety of manufacturers and in a variety of combinations, for virtually unlimited photographic capabilities. A wide range of special accessories is available too. The DMC-G1 also is equipped with a mini HDMI output terminal for easy connection with other AV devices. With features like these, the G1 gives users a host of photographic and entertainment possibilities to explore.
